The team participated in the Airbus innovations challenge that consists in the development of an innovative idea in the aerospace branch that can be related to energy, efficiency, affordable growth or traffic growth.

The project developed was an autonomous aircraft taxiing assistant that would reduce fuel consumption during pre flight procedures.

The team was one of the 100 selected to the second round of the competition, but we couldn't make to the next round.

Changes in the rules limited the aircraft empty weight in the Advanced class to
3 kg, besides of not requiring water as a payload.

The weight constraint forced the team to change its design methodology to build a lighter aircraft than the others years, when the empty weight used to be around 5 kg.

The team won the second place in the tightest competition in the last years, that had valid flights from several teams. Final results was known only in the last flight round.

  • Award for best embedded systems in the Advanced Class

After the 2011 participation and with the efforts of the team members, it was finally possible to design the first original project of the team.

In 2012, the rules of the Open Class, now nominated Advanced, changed, making the project even more focused in electronic and changing the payload material to water.

Those changes allowed the team to compete equally with all the other teams because none of them was used to the new competition conditions.

This year the team won their first championship being the only team to make a valid flight in the class.

Also this year, the team built their first Micro class aircraft.

  • Award for smallest payload removal time in the Micro Class

 

The team decided to participate in the 2011 competition with a project that was abandoned by the old team from PUC-Rio. The project was a biplane  that drew a lot attention to the newly created team due the construction quality. An interesting fact of the project is that, once it was adapted from an old project, it was necessary to find in which class the available aircraft would fit. As a biplane wouldn't fit in the regular category, the team decided to participate in the Open class. Since them, the team decided to focus in this class.

After the first participation in the global competition, the team had to deal with the limited time to develop another project for the national competition. Despite this, the team managed to design and build a competitive aircraft and won the championship in Advanced class.

The team competed not only in the Advanced Class, but also in the Micro Class.

With the second victory in the national competition, the team was invited again to participate in the global competition. In this year, the project of the previous year was simplified in order to reduce the aircraft empty weight. Despite being one of the best projects already   developed by the team, some technical flaws damaged the team's performance in the competition.

This year the team will compete in both Regular and Advanced class. The surprise of this year is the motor of the Advanced class that will be an electrical motor for the first time.

SAE International Aerodesign East 2013

With the last year championship, the team won the right to participate in the international competition in the United States, the SAE International Aerodesign East.

One great challenge to participate in the global competition is the logistic related to the aircraft transport. It was necessary to build an aircraft with an easy-to-assembly structure, that is also able to withstand the efforts during the flight.

For this, the team increased even more the constructive quality and developed an aircraft that was able to complete the mission during the global competition.
